Yeah, dogma always enables authoritarianism and violence. That bit about cop city is such a case study. You can have the most progressive and peaceable ideology around, but if you slip into dogma, boom, fascism blooms. Social predators will smell the blood in the water and feast. You need to keep your mind and heart open and flexible, be willing to make mistakes but always return to your values and try again. Love and humility. Avoid -ism in general, commit to your principles and keep creating. If you're not doing that, you're not being sentient, you're living like an animal.

Appreciate this expansive view and the balanced perspective. I just spent two months on the road in the American South and Gulf Coast regions interviewing beekeepers.

Honey farmers are finding that invasive species that dominate certain ecosystems are driving their production and are both fundamental to their business as well as susceptible to extreme weather events. They are also having huge success keeping bees in protected wild landscapes with diverse forage. Which we know also benefits native bees who may specialize in specific endemic plants.

Hearing this both/and perspective helps me to think about protecting livelihoods and landscapes in the current environment and also how we might build for a future that accounts for human and non-human life.

If we were to attempt to eradicate all non-native species which have become settlers on American soil, it would be more disruptive than we think and more purist than required.

I'm genuinely curious the issues you had? And which argument do you usually disagree with?

I thought this essay laid out exactly the issues I've been struggling with working in a predominantly white botanical institution.

So if you're still willing to engage, it would help a lot if you might elaborate on your thoughts here.

Wanted to read this in order to engage with an argument I usually disagree with, but it’s so bad right out of the gate that I couldn’t do it. Just lazy misinformation, straw man arguments, and outright falsehoods. Embarrassing for you.
